When communicating with someone who wears a hearing aid or simply has a hearing loss:
- Get their attention before beginning to speak.
- Speak face to face. Do not carry on a conversation from another room.
- Paraphrase if you have to repeat what has been said.
- Speak at a normal level or slightly louder.
- Stand within 2 to 3 feet of the listener.
- Reduce background noise.
- Avoid appearing frustrated.
